Cleft Sentences

Estruturas de enfase para destacar informacao sem mudar o sentido central da frase.

1. Por que usar cleft sentences

Cleft sentences servem para mover o foco da frase. Em vez de dizer apenas John broke the vase yesterday, podemos destacar o agente, o tempo ou o motivo.

2. It-clefts

Estrutura	Exemplo
It + be + foco + that/who...	It was John who broke the vase.
Foco no tempo	It was yesterday that they met.
Foco no lugar	It was in London that she found the book.

Use who com pessoas e that em contextos gerais. Na fala, that aparece bastante mesmo com pessoas.

3. Wh-clefts

What I need is a break.
What surprised me was her reaction.
Where we met was the interesting part.

A estrutura cria um efeito mais explicativo e muito util em escrita academica e fala formal.

4. All / the thing / the reason

All I want is some rest.
The thing I dislike most is the noise.
The reason she left was that she felt ignored.

5. Cuidados importantes

Nao use cleft sentence sem objetivo. Ela existe para dar enfase real.
Em provas, geralmente o erro esta na concordancia do verbo be ou no pronome relativo.
Mantenha o tempo verbal coerente com a frase original.
